about

An artist's work should reflect their journey. For Crooka the road has been an ever-changing landscape and one that he has honed into a fine science over his eight-year career.

The man has worn many hats, be it hosting his weekly radio show, throwing one of his monthly events, or hunkering down in the studio. His latest EP “EARTH WITHOUT THE BOY” finds us in new and uncharted territory for the sophomore producer. A dub techno journey that is equal parts melancholic and driving.

The title track “Distant Dreams” embodies its name, a washy subterranean jam that one just wants to close their eyes and get lost in. Driving kicks and claps are juxtaposed by light arpy synths and progressive pads culminating in a sound that is wholly its own. It is an after-hours gem that has all the makings of a seminal dance floor filler.

“Earth Without The Boy” marks Crooka’s most left field and experimental track to date. Within it the listener finds a dubby tribal soundscape punctuated by ethereal and haunting keys that cut through to beautifully piercing effect. It is a slow and engrossing ride that will easily find its way into the opening moments of any selectors set.

Crooka’s inaugural Substation release is a lucid elixir, one that will send the listener into a dancing spell, and one that we are happy to have on our menu.
