Fever Dream, the new EP by Toronto “pop-synthétique” band The Number Line, is a veritable all-star showcasing, featuring remixes by four of the most notable acts from the world of Canadian underground house music.
On the original mix, the echoing vocals of singer Piper Davis sends R&B undertones floating alongside the group’s signature otherworldly blend of stripped-back percussion and dream sequence synth melodies.
This EP assembles two of the co-founders of Substation Recordings, Isis Graham and Rusty Meeks. Both turn the original into a deep house creation ready for the summer stages. Isis Graham’s remix is marked by punchy bass notes and crisp snares, while Rusty Meeks crafts a captivating blend of melodic, resonating bass carried by Piper’s voice.
Canadian icon Neighbour’s remix calls to mind images of poolside dance parties, with its lush organs and energetic, shaker-driven percussion.
Finally, Red Bull Music Academy Bass Camp participant Sergio Levels continues his run of delivering the unexpected and un-characterizable. The upper-register leads of the original have been taken apart and reconstructed over one of Sergio’s signature brooding techno beats.
The sheer versatility and talent on this EP will undoubtedly make it a must-have for the forthcoming season of open-air parties.
