about

With upfront support from Richie Hawtin, Joe Silva, and Vanilla Ace.

Krystle Love B’s second release on Substation Records is a paradox. It’s the product of the Calgary producer’s own introspective journey, yet it also reflects an outward journey into the heart of the city’s burgeoning techno scene. The EP’s four original tracks represent Krystle Love B’s desire to move away from many of house music’s currently idealized stylings in favour of finding her own voice as an artist. The result is a blending of darkness with melody, and of heavy, resonant synth-pads with soulfulness that’s inspired by artists like Maya Jane Coles, yet forged in multiple new directions.

The ever changing trajectory of Krystle Love B’s productions reflect Calgary’s increased resolve to turn its stable of producers into an accessible collective, one that favours a fervent exchange of ideas and knowledge to motivate the community as a whole. As a member of this community, Krystle Love B is constantly driving herself to reach new heights, both artistically and technically. Her works are imbued with an unrelenting thirst to keep creating tracks designed specifically for the dancefloor. This quality, combined with appearances like her recent inclusion in the Bass Coast Project, and opening support for artists like Max Cooper, is rapidly drawing her to the forefront of Western Canadian techno.
