about

The deceptively deep Calgary electronic community has revealed four subtle, thoughtful, crafted collages ready for intimate dance floors of all kinds. The delicate dance between person and machine has resulted in four deliberate and moody explorations of our relationship with pure, artificial, and paradoxically human beats and tones.

Krystle Love B’s Aura morphs and transmutes vocal snippets and synth stabs into the most human sounding tune of the release with house inflections to root the warm blanket of techno sounds to something familiar.

By contrast, Sergio Levels grasps fully onto the relentless march of hypnotic repetition with Mode, rolling high hats and delayed, echoing synths pulling the listener ever onward into an alternate world of shifting tones.

You Bet first disorients then realigns itself as Hidio syncopates and disjoints his echoes and percussive sounds. The rapid fire gated vocals serve as counterpoint to the elastic sub bass and long term rise and fall of synth FX.

Substation representative Rusty Meeks creates the most explicitly transformative and textured piece of the release, as fully alien stabs and scratching filtered echoes are balanced by the simple chime of a doorbell or dripping water bouncing in and out of audible range. Builds and drops straddle the line of organic and artificial most expertly here, leaving listeners to fill the gaps between known and unknown tones.
