about

Overpowering, commanding bass drums. Intricate percussion with tribal undertones. Changing phrases that instantly transport the listener into a new space marked by minimalism, or funk, or emotive melodies. These are just some of the things that begin to characterize the enigmatic Enno Karr.

Originally from South Africa, Enno Karr has been creating music since childhood. On his new offering for Substation Recordings, he uses his breadth of experience to fabricate a witches’ brew of dancefloor sounds that defy rigid genre categorization. His palette of influences from across the world, and across years, have given rise to his own definitive style of house music. As such, this EP provides an experience that only the people who hear his music can claim to know.

The track Shaman embodies techno’s ability to turn the room into an instrument, the vibrations of the walls becoming an extension of the drum. An acid melody drifts in the background and turns the track into an escape from reality.

Um, Excuse Me is populated by dance inducing phrases marked by punchy organs that taper off into a stream of absorbing chords.

Finally, The Stand Off takes an imposing four to the floor kick and combines it with Enno Karr’s penchant for creating progressive, subtle undercurrents.

Substation is a label known for it’s innovation and experimentation, and with this EP Enno Karr has found ways to push the envelope even further.
